United Financial Freeland Walleye Races 10K
The United Financial Credit Union Freeland Walleye Races occur in Freeland, Michigan, as part of the 40th annual Freeland Walleye Festival. The event features multiple distance options utilizing the Great Lakes Bay Regional Trail System and local roads. The race is a USATF sanctioned event, which requires a safety plan and provides official results for scoring purposes. All courses start and finish near the Freeland SportsZone.
The 10K and 5K courses are designed as out-and-back routes. The 10 km course heads east toward Kochville Township, utilizing a portion of the newly connected trail extension. Runners reach a turnaround point at 3.1 miles before returning to the finish line. The 5 km route follows the same trail system with a turnaround point at 1.55 miles. Due to the nature of the rail trail and the out-and-back traffic, strollers and dogs (except service animals) are not permitted on the course.
Available distances include:
- 10 km run
- 5 km run/walk
- 5 km untimed fun walk
- 1 mile kid's fun run
Registered participants receive a custom finisher medal, professional timing results, and free online finisher photographs. High-quality race t-shirts are provided to those who select the option during registration before the inventory deadline. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5 km and 10 km events, as well as to first-place winners in designated age categories. Proceeds from the event are distributed back into the Freeland community through the Freeland Lions Club. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
