Unique Abilities 5K Run/Walk
The Unique Abilities 5K is a community run and walk hosted by Preston's Path Foundation in Southampton, NY. The course measures 3.1 miles and starts and finishes at Cooper's Beach. The route follows local roads including Meadow Lane, First Neck Lane, Great Plains Road, Captains Neck Lane, Boyeson Road and Halsey Neck Lane.
The event emphasizes Autism Acceptance and inclusion as part of Autism Acceptance Month. Organizers describe the event as a beginning of a mission to build a more inclusive community for Autistic individuals and their families and plan to partner with a nonprofit so a portion of proceeds can support autism programs and services.
On-course amenities include water stations, food and refreshment tables, music, finisher medals and free finish-line photos. A kids fun run is included. The first 50 registrants to arrive early will receive a t-shirt; sizes are not guaranteed. Personalized bibs are available if registration is completed three weeks in advance. Live and same-day results are provided online, by text and by email.
Race procedures note that no dogs or bikes are allowed on the race course. Participants using strollers are asked to start at the back of the field. Awards are given to the top three male and top three female overall finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
