Event Format
Uncle Clyde's Run & Slide is a tag-team relay race held on a snow tubing hill at Purgatory Resort. Teams of two or three people compete to complete as many laps as possible within a set time. The course involves running up a tubing hill while carrying a tube, then sliding down on it. At the bottom, participants hand the tube to their teammate in a transition area. Teams must alternate laps for the first 30 minutes of the race.
Distances
Teams can choose from two race durations:
- 60-minute race
- 90-minute race
Categories
The event includes categories for adult teams (male, female, and coed), as well as categories for kids and parent/child teams.
Participant Information
Registration is per team, not per individual. The event is limited to 40 teams. Check-in opens 45 minutes before the race at the bottom of the Tubing Hill in the Columbine area. The closest parking is the Gelande Lot, about a 200-yard walk from the start. Appropriate clothing for a cold-weather outdoor event is required, and costumes are encouraged. Traction devices for footwear are permitted.
Additional Details
Prizes are awarded to winning teams in each category and for costumes and team spirit. Music is played during the race. The event will be held regardless of typical winter weather, though the race director reserves the right to modify or cancel if conditions become unsafe.
