10th Annual UMEI Lightning Bolt
The 10th Annual UMEI Lightning Bolt takes place on September 26, 2026 at Point Pelee National Park in the Municipality of Leamington, Ontario. The event is presented as an activity for the whole family and offers several distances for adults and children.
Offered distances:
- 10 km run
- 5 km walk or run
- 1 km kids' run
- 400 m kids' dash
The race is chip timed by W.R.A.C.E. and may be used as a qualifying event. Registration includes free entry into Point Pelee and, if registered by the early bird deadline of September 11, 2026, an event athletic long sleeve shirt. The event provides chip timing, post-race refreshments including Mennonite sausage, and a swag table to reduce waste.
Awards are planned for 1st to 3rd place male and female in the 5K and 10K runs and the 5K walk, with medals for children. There will be many door prizes; every participant receives a ticket for the general draws and must be present at the awards ceremony and prize draw to receive a prize. Participants who raise pledges of CAD 300 or more receive a UMEI branded cooler bag at registration.
A course map shows one lap equals 5 km; 10 km participants complete two laps. The event runs rain or shine and notes the likely presence of black flies and mosquitoes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
