UK 5K presented by Kroger Simple Truth
The UK 5K is a running and walking event held on the campus of the University of Kentucky in Lexington. The course provides participants with a close-up view of various University of Kentucky athletic venues. The route begins outside of the football stadium, Kroger Field, at Gate 12. During the race, participants pass several sports facilities, including the football training facilities, Kentucky Proud Park, the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex, and the Tim Couch Practice Fields. The race concludes with a finish on the turf inside Kroger Field.
The event features the following distances:
- 5K
- 100 Yard Dash (for children ages 6 and under)
The 5K is a chip-timed race. Due to the nature of the course, which includes tight turns, ramps, and uneven terrain, strollers and pets are not permitted. The terrain may also not be suitable for wheelchairs. Participants in the 5K receive a commemorative t-shirt and a finisher's medal that is a replica of Kroger Field. Performance prizes are provided for the overall top three finishers.
The 100 Yard Dash is a sprint race for younger participants. This dash takes place on the field inside the stadium, running from one end zone to the other. Parents are permitted to accompany young runners if necessary. This segment of the event also maintains a policy that prohibits dogs and strollers.
Packet pickup is available on the day before the race at a local grocery store on Euclid Avenue and on the morning of the event near Gate 12 of the stadium. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
