Twisted Roots : High Cliff State Park

Twisted Roots is a trail running event on Sunday, Sep 20, 2026, held at High Cliff State Park near Sherwood, Wisconsin. The event offers the following distances:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon

Courses include technical single-track sections, wide rolling prairie, and views of Lake Winnebago. Runners also pass the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment and the historical Lime Kiln Ruins. Some trail sections are shared with mountain bikers and horse riders; participants are asked to yield and follow trail etiquette. Cutoff times are 8 hours for the full marathon and 5 hours for the half marathon.

Logistics, aid and rules

The event base is the Gathering Space in the upper parking lot, with ample parking. The main aid station will be at the Gathering Space, with a second aid station planned along the route pending final DNR approval. Aid station supplies will include snacks, water, soda and an electrolyte beverage. This is a cupless event; participants must provide their own reusable cups or hydration carriers; volunteers will assist with refills. A pasta buffet will be offered after each event. No alcohol will be served, no disposable single-use cups will be available, and cowbells are not allowed by crew, staff or spectators. Registration closes Thu, Sep 17 at 11:59 PM CT.
