Twisted Roots
Twisted Roots is a trail running event at High Cliff State Park near Sherwood, WI. The event offers both a half marathon and a full marathon on courses that include technical singletrack, wide rolling prairie sections, and views of Lake Winnebago. Runners also pass the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment and the historic Lime Kiln Ruins. Some trail sections are shared with mountain bikers and horse riders; participants are asked to yield and follow trail etiquette.
The event base is the Gathering Space in the park upper lot, with ample parking and a main aid station there. At least one additional aid station will be on course once final approvals are complete. Food and drink offerings include running snacks, water, soda, and an electrolyte beverage. The event is cupless; athletes must provide reusable cups or hydration carriers for refilling. A pasta buffet is offered after each race.
Cutoff times are 8 hours for the marathon and 5 hours for the half marathon. The organizer is TYDISH Running, a female owned group that emphasizes a grass roots approach and local support. Registration includes an option to donate to the Friends of High Cliff State Park, and a portion of proceeds will support that group. Rules for the event include no alcohol, no disposable single use cups, and no cowbells by crew, staff, or spectators. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
