Twisted Roots - High Cliff State Park, Sherwood WI
Twisted Roots is a trail running event on September 20, 2026, hosted at High Cliff State Park near Sherwood, WI. The event offers the following distances:
- Marathon
- Half marathon
Courses run near Lake Winnebago and travel over technical single track and wider rolling prairie sections. Runners also pass the Niagara Escarpment cliffs and the Lime Kiln Ruins. Some trail sections are shared with mountain bikers and horse riders; participants are asked to yield and observe trail etiquette. Cutoff times are eight hours for the marathon and five hours for the half marathon.
The event base is the Gathering Space in the park upper lot, with ample parking. The main aid station will be at the Gathering Space and another station will be placed along the route; the second station location is pending final approval. Aid offerings include snacks, water, soda and an electrolyte beverage. This is a cupless event; athletes must provide their own reusable cups or hydration carriers and volunteers will assist with refills. A pasta buffet will be available after each race.
The event is organized by TYDISH Running. Entrants must be at least 16 years old; athletes under 18 must complete an additional waiver at check in. No alcohol, no disposable single use cups and no cowbells are allowed. During registration there is an option to donate to the Friends of High Cliff State Park and a portion of event profits will support that group.
