Twisted Roots : High Cliff State Park, Sherwood, WI
Twisted Roots is a trail running event held on September 20, 2026 at High Cliff State Park near Sherwood, Wisconsin. The event offers two distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
Courses run on technical singletrack and wider rolling prairie sections with views of Lake Winnebago and the Niagara Escarpment, including the historic Lime Kiln Ruins. Some trail sections are shared with mountain bikers and horse riders; participants should yield and follow standard trail etiquette.
The event base is the Gathering Space in the upper parking lot, where the main aid station will be located. An additional aid station will be placed along the route; its exact location is pending final DNR approval. The event is cupless; volunteers will help refill athletes' hydration carriers and reusable cups, which participants must provide. Post-event food includes a pasta buffet. There is ample parking but the park is not reserved exclusively for the event.
Cutoff times are eight hours for the full marathon and five hours for the half marathon. The organizer is TYDISH Running, noted as female owned and focused on a grass routes feel. During registration participants may opt to donate to the Friends of High Cliff State Park; a portion of event profits will also support that non-profit.
