Twisted Roots
Twisted Roots is a trail running event at High Cliff State Park in Sherwood, WI, offering both a full marathon and a half marathon. The courses pass along Lake Winnebago, technical single tracks, wide rolling prairie sections, and the Niagara Escarpment cliffs with historical Lime Kiln Ruins nearby.
The event is organized by TYDISH Running, a female owned group that emphasizes a natural, grass-routes feel and community support. The race operates from a base at the Gathering Space upper lot, where parking and a main aid station are located. A second aid station along the route will be announced after final Department of Natural Resources approval.
On-course provisions include snacks, water, soda, and an electrolyte beverage. This is a cupless event; participants should bring their own hydration carriers or reusable cups, and volunteers will assist with refilling. A pasta buffet is offered after each race.
Some trail sections are shared with mountain bikers and horse riders; participants are expected to yield and observe standard trail etiquette. The organizers note that they do not have exclusive use of the park and that attendees share the space with other park users. Cutoff times are eight hours for the full marathon and five hours for the half marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
