Run Away to the Bay
Run Away to the Bay is a spring team relay covering 55 mile from Menominee Park on Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh to The City Deck in Downtown Green Bay. Teams consist of 2 to 8 participants and the event is run as a relay across public roads and trails.
The course follows the lakeshore north through the Fox Cities, crosses Calumet County countryside, and joins the Fox River Trail just north of Forest Junction. Runners remain on the trail through DePere until the waterfront finish at The City Deck.
Participation rules include a team minimum age of 16 and an average team pace limit of 12:00 minutes per mile. Teams provide their own support vehicle and carry a slap band that must be worn by the runner on course and passed between team members. Exchanges are informal and teams may supply food, fluids and clothing to runners from their vehicles but rides are not permitted.
Event services include chip timing, a front bib for each runner, a participant shirt, a finisher medal, finish line food and beverage, and a mobile aid station stocked with snacks and drinks. Teams are seeded by anticipated finish time to help manage traffic on course. Safety expectations note that traffic has the right of way and runners should use sidewalks when available.
