Trail and Beach Running in Fort Myers Beach
The Turtle Trot takes place at Lovers Key State Park in Florida. This event offers participants the opportunity to run or walk through a natural coastal environment that avoids paved surfaces. The course transitions through several distinct ecosystems, including maritime hammocks, coastal dune habitats, and mangrove estuaries. The routes conclude in a beachside setting near the Gulf of Mexico.
Available distances include:
- 5 km Run
- 1 mile Fun Run
The 5 km course is designed as a trail and beach route that finishes near the park's activity center. Participants may observe local wildlife such as dolphins, shorebirds, and turtles during the event. Registration fees for the event include the park admission fee, allowing participants to remain in the park after the conclusion of the races.
Awards are presented across various categories, including Overall Male and Female, Masters, Grandmasters, Senior Grandmasters, and Veteran Masters. Age group awards are also provided for participants ranging from under 14 to over 75. Proceeds from the event are directed to the Friends of Lovers Key, a non-profit organization that supports habitat protection, storm recovery, and community enrichment programs within the state park.
