Turnhouse Hill Race
Turnhouse Hill Race is an annual hill running event held within the Pentland Hills Regional Park, with registration and number collection based near the Pentland café at the Flotterstone car park. Online registration via SI-Entries opens on May 20th. Prizes are sponsored by Stewart Brewing, Loanhead. The senior entry fee is £7 for advance entries and £8 on the day. The junior race is free. The race fee includes a donation to the Pentland Hills Regional Park.
The senior race covers approximately 5.2 km with about 310 m of ascent. The route has a main steep ascent and descent to and from the summit; most of the course is tracked but the final climb to the summit goes through heather. Hill shoes are advised. The course is marshalled and run under Scottish Hill Racing rules. Runners must carry full body cover when conditions require and a whistle. A map is advised though a compass is not required.
The junior race was extended in 2023 and is an out and back route of about 2.2 km with roughly 160 m of ascent. Parking at Flotterstone is limited; marshals will assist and car sharing or public transport is encouraged. Facilities are limited to public toilets behind the Pentland café; there are no changing or showering facilities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
