Turnhouse Hill Race
The Turnhouse Hill Race, organised by Penicuik Harriers Running Club, takes place on 10/06/2026 within the Pentland Hills Regional Park at Flotterstone car park. Number collection is carried out in the evening near the Pentland café at Flotterstone.
Distances:
- 5.2 km, 310 m ascent senior race, main ascent and descent are steep.
- ≈2.2 km, 160 m ascent junior out and back route that reaches higher up Turnhouse.
The senior route is mostly on tracked ground but the steep climb to the summit goes through heather; hill shoes are advised. The junior course was extended in 2023 and is a short, fast out and back route. The race start is a short jog up the glen road from the Flotterstone car park and competitors are asked to follow the woodland track.
Online registration on SI-Entries opens on May 20th. Senior entry costs £7 in advance and £8 on the day; the junior race is free. Registration fees include a donation to the Pentland Hills Regional Park. Prizes are sponsored by Stewart Brewing, Loanhead.
Facilities are limited: public toilets are available behind the Pentland café and there are no changing or showering facilities. Parking is restricted; car sharing is encouraged and marshals will assist with parking. Bus options include services to Flotterstone Inn or to Penicuik with a short jog required.
Safety rules follow Scottish Hill Running guidance. Runners must carry full body cover as appropriate for conditions and a whistle. The course is marshalled and competitors are advised to have a map to hand. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
