Turnhouse Hill Race
The Turnhouse Hill Race, organized by Penicuik Harriers, is a traditional hill running event held in the Pentland Hills Regional Park near Edinburgh, starting from Flotterstone Car Park. The senior race covers 5.2 km with a 310-meter ascent, featuring steep climbs and descents, including a challenging heather-covered summit section, making hill shoes advisable. A junior race of 2.2 km with 160 meters ascent is also offered for ages 10-15, free to enter.
The course is mostly tracked and well marshalled. The event promotes sustainability with limited parking and encourages car sharing or public transport. Facilities are minimal, and safety rules require full body cover and a whistle. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
