Turnhouse Hill Race
The event is scheduled for 22 July 2026 but organisers have not yet received permission to run it. The race is organised by Penicuik Harriers and takes place within the Pentland Hills Regional Park, with registration located near the Pentland café at the Flotterstone car park. The race start lies a short walk or jog from the car park through woodland.
Distances include:
- Senior race: 5.2 km, 310 m ascent, mainly tracked, steep summit heather climb.
- Junior race: about 2.2 km, 160 m ascent, out and back route.
The senior race has an online entry fee and an on-the-day entry fee; the junior race is free. The registration cost for the senior event includes a donation to the Pentland Hills Regional Park. Prizes are sponsored by Stewart Brewing.
Course notes and facilities: the senior course features a steep ascent and descent so hill running shoes are advised; much of the route is on tracked ground but the final climb is through heather. There are very limited public toilets behind the Pentland café and no changing or showering facilities. Parking at Flotterstone is limited; marshals will assist with parking and organisers ask for responsible travel choices such as car sharing, public transport, or cycling.
Safety and rules: the race is run under Scottish Hill Racing rules. Runners are required to carry full body cover as appropriate for conditions and a whistle; the course will be marshalled. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
