Castleton Turkey Trot
The Castleton Turkey Trot is a community-oriented event held annually on Thanksgiving morning in Castleton. This 5k run and walk is a collaboration between the Town of Castleton and the Friends of Castleton Parks and Recreation. The event serves as a fundraiser to support local recreation initiatives for participants of all ages.
The 5k course features a mass start located in the heart of the village at the intersection of Main Street and Mechanic Street. The route heads west through the historic Main Street area before turning onto South Street. From there, the course transitions onto the scenic D&H Rail Trail. After a section on the trail, the path leads back to the village along Main Street.
The terrain is described as extremely flat. While the D&H Rail Trail section consists of a gravel surface, it is considered manageable for larger-wheeled running strollers. This layout remains consistent with the course used in previous years.
Bib pickup and check-in take place at the Castleton Recreation Center on Mechanic Street. Awards are presented to the top finishers in various categories. Participants traveling by car can utilize on-street parking available on Main Street within the village. Registration is available online, with limited registration options also provided at the recreation center on the morning of the event.
