Event Overview
The Turkey Trek is a multicourse running event held at Long Lake Ranch Park in Arvada, Colorado. The event takes place on the Ralston Creek Trail and features a variety of distances suitable for different participant interests. The primary route involves a steady uphill climb reaching a summit around the three-mile mark of the course.
Course Features and Challenges
The 10k and Half Turkey routes include specific holiday-themed obstacles. Participants encounter an optional eggnog chug challenge at the top of the hill, followed by a mile-long run along a ridge with views of the surrounding area. The course then transitions into a gradual descent down the east side of the mesa.
On the flatter sections of the course, runners encounter the hay bale hop challenge. Approximately one kilometer before the finish line, there is a pumpkin pie challenge. The 5k and 2k distances offer a shorter version of these trail features.
Available Distances
The event includes four distinct distances:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Turkey): Includes all course challenges; finishers receive a commemorative mug.
- 10k: Follows the full loop with hills and themed challenges.
- 5k: A shorter distance incorporating a portion of the course features.
- 2k: An untimed walk or run catering to those seeking a shorter distance.
The races are organized as a clockwise loop starting and ending within the regional park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
