Turkey Burner 5K
The Turkey Burner is a Thanksgiving Day running and walking event located in the Hinckley Reservation. The race course features a scenic loop around Hinckley Lake on a paved path, traveling in a counter-clockwise direction. Participants travel through an area known for its local flora and fauna.
The event offers several participation options:
- 5K Run: A full loop of the lake on scenic paved paths.
- 1 Mile Fun Run: An abbreviated distance option for walkers and participants.
- Virtual 5K: An option to complete the distance at any location and submit times for comparison with other virtual participants.
The event is held at the South Ball Field parking lot area at 1920 East Dr. Registration is limited to 1000 participants due to parking availability at the venue. All registered participants receive a custom long-sleeved shirt and a finisher medal. The event also includes a fundraising component where individuals can earn refunds on entry fees or additional merchandise based on specific donation milestones.
Participants often wear Thanksgiving-themed costumes during the event. Age group awards, consisting of custom winter hats, are presented for several categories ranging from under 10 to over 70. Proceeds from the event support free wellness programs for individuals managing addiction and mental health issues. Pre-race packet pickup is available the day before the event in Medina.
