Event Overview
The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk returns to St. Augustine for its seventh year. This event is held to remember the events of September 11, 2001, and to support first responders and military members. It is part of a national series inspired personally by the actions of firefighter Stephen Siller. The race takes place in St. John's, Florida, with the start and finish located at Beachwalk Club Drive.
Distance and Course
The event features a single distance of 5 km (3.1 miles). It is open to a variety of participants, and the course can be completed by running or walking. Strollers and wheelchairs are permitted on the course. In tribute to the event's origins, some participants may choose to complete the distance in firefighter turnout gear or carrying military backpacks. A water station is provided along the route and at the finish line.
Registration and Participation
Registration is available for several categories, including adults, first responders, military personnel, and youth. Online registration remains open until the start of the race. Participants must wear their bib number on their outermost garment to be allowed on the course. Finisher medals are awarded to all participants who complete the distance.
Awards and Recognition
The 5K is a timed event. Awards are presented at an on-site tent following the race. Recognition is given to the top three male and female finishers across all age categories. Specialized awards are also presented to the top first responders completing the event in professional gear, representing fire, police, and armed services.
