The event is a timed 5K (3.1 miles) that allows participants to run or walk and is held in memory of a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers.

Someone else may pick up a packet if they present a copy of the registrant's receipt. On-site registration and packet pickup are available on the day of the event. A water station will be located along the route and water will be available at the finish. Participants must display their bib on the front of the outermost garment; those running without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish.
