Tunnel Hill 100 & 50 Mile Runs : Vienna, IL
Tunnel Hill is a multi-distance ultrarunning event held on the Tunnel Hill State Trail with start and finish at Vienna City Park. Distances offered include:
- 100 miles
- 100 km
- USATF 50 mile National Championship
- 50 miles
- Marathon
The course follows a crushed limestone rails-to-trail route, includes an iconic tunnel, and uses a certified out-and-back loop that yields certified marathon, 50 mile, 100 km, and 100 mile finishes. 50 km and 50 mile runners pass through the tunnel twice; 100 mile runners pass through four times. Surface is smooth with minimal technical sections and one major road crossing.
Time limits are 30 hours for the 100 mile, 100 km, and 50 mile events; 100 mile entrants must begin the second 50 in less than 15 hours. Pacers are permitted under event and championship rules; pacers sign a waiver and wear a pacer bib. Aid stations provide water, hydration drink, fruit, snacks, hot food later in the day, and limited cups so runners should bring personal fluid containers. Drop bags have recommended size guidelines and are transported to designated aid locations.
The event is organized by Durbin Race Management. The venue is certified by national and international bodies and will host the USATF 50 Mile Road Championships in 2026. Prize structures, course records, certification status, live tracking, and detailed race instructions are provided by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
