About the race

The course follows the Tunnel Hill State Trail: runners head south to the Wetlands Center at 13.1094 miles, run north 25 miles to a northern turnaround, and return to Vienna City Park to complete 50 miles; the 100 repeats that loop. A certified 100km turnaround is about 6.06855 miles south of the first southern aid station. All distances are USATF and World Athletics certified and the 100 and 50 hold IAU Golden Label status.
Time limits are strict: 30 hours for the 100, 100km, and 50, and 100-mile entrants must begin the second 50 in under 15 hours. Pacers are permitted under specified rules and must sign a waiver and wear a pacer bib. Aid stations provide standard food and fluids, limited cups, porta johns at designated locations, and drop bag support with suggested size guidance. Prize money and record bonuses are offered for course records and world or national records, and the USATF 50 Mile Championship has eligibility, drug testing, and shoe regulations.
