Tryfan Downhill Dash

Tryfan Downhill Dash is a short, steep fell race on Tryfan near Bethesda. The listed distance is 1 km (0.6 mi) with a climb value of 680 m (2231 ft). The course runs over mostly off track ground with rocky, steep and exposed sections where a fall could cause serious injury.

The event is partially marked; local knowledge is beneficial and significant experience is required. Navigation skills and mountain skills are rated at an expert level, with severe exposure and several difficult underfoot sections. Escape routes are few or absent, and the route is in an area where very poor conditions or sudden weather changes are likely.

Minimum age for competitors is over 18. A nominal entry payment of £1.00 is collected for Ogwen Mountain Rescue. Course records are noted as 7.21 (male, 2023) and 11:30 (female, 2010). The race is insured by the Welsh Fell Runners Association.

In poor weather the organiser requests contact on race day to check whether the event will proceed. The location is the car park on the A5 at the foot of Tryfan, near Bethesda (grid reference 663603). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
