Skye Trail Ultra
Skye Trail Ultra is a long-distance trail race on the Isle of Skye following the unmarked Skye Trail. The event is described as approximately 79 miles with total ascent around 3780 m. A permanent low-level alternative to the coastal section is used where required, which affects route distance. The field is limited to 100 places and entry is by application only; all applications are vetted.
The route starts at Duntulm on the northern coast and finishes at Broadford Village Hall. There are seven checkpoints along the route that provide water, snacks and, at village halls, hot food. Mountain teams are positioned on high ground to support safety. An overall cut-off time of 27 hours applies and checkpoint cut-offs are enforced; runners must register at each checkpoint to remain in the race.
Participants must be at least 20 years old on race day and demonstrate prior mountain and ultrarunning experience. Runners must be able to self-navigate using a map and compass. A mandatory kit list must be carried throughout the event and is subject to random kit checks; it includes navigation tools, waterproof clothing, emergency shelter and sufficient water and food. Support crew access is permitted at specified checkpoints but pacers are not allowed.
Dropbag services are provided at a mid-race checkpoint and at the finish with stated size limits. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
