Event Details

The Night Challenge 3: Pier Gates is a night running event scheduled for Friday, 9th October 2026 in County Wicklow. It is part of the Night Challenges league. The entry limit is 200 participants.

Courses

The event offers two courses on technical terrain.

  • Long Course: 11 km with approximately 450 m of climb. It is open to runners aged 18 or older. The terrain is a mix of technical ground, bog, boardwalk, forest trail, and open mountain.
  • Short Course: 5 km with approximately 170 m of climb. It is open to participants aged 14 or older and involves forest trails, boardwalk, and some technical terrain, with no open mountain section.

An early start at 7:00 PM is available for the long course, intended for runners who expect to finish in more than 160% of the winner's time.

Mandatory Kit

All participants must bring and may be required to carry specific gear. The mandatory Level B kit includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. For the race, a headtorch and a reflective arm/waistband or light attached to a backpack are also mandatory to be visible from behind. Kit checks will be conducted.

Venue & Logistics

Registration and the event start/finish are at the Lough Tay / Lough Dan Carpark. Parking fees apply and vary based on the number of occupants per car (e.g., €4 for a single occupant). Carpooling is encouraged. Portaloo facilities are available at the carpark.

Additional Information

A prize-giving with cake will be held after the event at the carpark; participants are asked to bring their own cup for tea or coffee. An informal recce of the long course is planned for the preceding Wednesday at 7:30 PM. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
