Transplant Run 5K
The Transplant Run 5K is an annual community event held at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. Organized by the Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute’s Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant team, this event serves as a fundraiser to support heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support patients. The funds raised are directed toward a patient needs fund, which assists with essential medications, medical equipment, and daily necessities such as electricity for heart pumps.
The event features several participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 Mile Run/Walk
- Sleep In Supporter (Non-running participation)
The course is located within McAlpine Creek Park. Park Rangers are on-site to direct participant parking and ensure accessible parking spaces are available. The event provides an opportunity to honor heart transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) recipients, who often participate in the run or walk. Transplant and VAD patients are able to register for the event at no cost. Registrants who sign up early are provided with a race shirt.
The event policies state that there are no refunds provided unless participants have enrolled in a specific protection program, though registration transfers are permitted. Race management maintains the right to modify or cancel the event in the case of unfavorable weather conditions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
