Trails & Tarmac Winter 12 hour Backyard Ultra
Trails & Tarmac is a Backyard Ultra event on 6 February 2027 near Crickhowell in the Black Mountains. Competitors run repeated laps of a measured 4.2 mile loop that is roughly 50 percent trail and 50 percent tarmac. The route includes one gradual climb and a short steep section, with the remaining terrain relatively flat.
The format uses hourly repeats. The first eleven laps follow the standard Backyard Ultra format where each lap must be completed within an hour. The twelfth and final lap is run as a race with the course direction reversed; the first placed male and female on that final lap receive trophies. New medals for 2026 are noted, and the event intends to award medals to anyone who reaches 32 miles (an ultra).
Facilities and services include on-site medics, showers and toilets, a staffed common aid station at headquarters, feeding and watering during the event, and additional hot food after the fifth lap. Timing is provided and results report distance covered for each runner. Supporter rules restrict access to the starting corral, prohibit non-competitors on course, and limit phone contact with runners while they are on the course except in emergencies.
