Trails & Tarmac 12hr BYU - Winter -
Trails & Tarmac is a backyard ultra event organised by Limitless Trails near Crickhowell in the Black Mountains. The course alternates between trail and tarmac and is described as roughly half trail, half tarmac, with one gradual climb, a short steep section, and otherwise relatively flat terrain suited to faster running.
The event uses a 4.167 mile loop. The format requires each of the first eleven loops to be completed within an hour; the twelfth loop is run as a race to decide the winner. The race is capped at 12 hours. Each loop starts precisely one hour after the previous start; runners receive three, two, and one minute warnings and must be in the starting corral at the bell.
Awards and recognition include a trophy for first place, a medal for completing any loop, and a special medal for reaching 32 miles. Support on site includes food and drink provision, additional hot food after the fifth loop, medics, showers and toilets, and event photographers whose images are free to download after the event. Parking at headquarters is charged at £5 and includes entry to a free event of choice.
Entry details available via SiEntries include an age minimum of 17 and an entry fee of £75. A common aid station will be available at headquarters; personal aid during a loop is not permitted. Other course rules restrict non-competitors on course, prohibit artificial aids including trekking poles, and limit communications to emergencies while runners are on the course.
