Trail Trilogy
Trail Trilogy is a multi-distance trail running and walking event on the Hauraki Rail Trail held Sunday 11 October 2026. Each distance starts at a historic railway station and the courses link sections of the trail between Thames, Te Aroha, Waikino and Waihi.
Distances include:
- 9 km Race the Train with a Goldfields Railway ride between Waihi and Waikino.
- 21.1 km K’Hake Half from Paeroa to Waihi via Karangahake Gorge.
- 42.2 km Rail Rider Marathon 100% off-road, largely flat then slightly rolling.
- 55 km Hauraki 50FIVE Ultra 100% off-road with flat early sections and rolling finishes.
- 100 km Hauraki Hundee for teams on a flat off-road course.
Routes run through native bush and farmland, alongside the Ohinemuri River, across bridges and through a 1 km train tunnel in Karangahake Gorge. The marathon and ultra courses are described as mostly flat for the early parts with slightly rolling sections toward the end. Regardless of distance, all events converge on a single finish at Waihi Train Station. Events accept individual entrants and teams, and participants may run or walk.
