Trail of Fears is a variable-distance Last Runner Standing trail race held in Jackson, TN. It is described as the oldest continuous running Last Runner Standing event. The course is a single trail loop of 4.3 miles.
Format and course
Runners must complete the loop within one hour or they are eliminated. The race resumes at the top of each hour for remaining runners; any runner who does not answer the bell at the start of the new hour is eliminated. This hourly elimination continues until one runner remains. Finish times within an hour affect rest time before the next loop—for example, a 40-minute loop finish yields about 20 minutes of rest before the next hour, while a finish at 59 minutes leaves under one minute of rest.
