About the race
Trail of Fears is a trail running event scheduled for December 19, 2026, in Jackson, TN. It is described as the oldest, continuous running Last Runner Standing event. The course is a looped trail of 4.3 miles and the race uses an elimination format that makes the total distance variable.
Runners must complete each loop within one hour. Any runner who does not finish the loop within that limit is eliminated. At the start of each new hour the race resumes for those who remain; runners who are not present when the race restarts are eliminated. The sequence repeats each hour until a single runner remains as the winner. Competitors who complete a loop well under the hour have time to rest before the next loop, while those who arrive close to the limit have very little recovery time.
The event takes place on a trail course and is likely to move from early light into evening conditions, possibly finishing under the moon with wildlife nearby.
