Apex Skin Towpath Freedom 5K

The Apex Skin Towpath Freedom 5K honors United States veterans and commemorates the completion of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail within Summit County. The event raises funds for the continued development and enhancement of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail, connector trails, and the National Heritage Area, resources used by over 2.5 million runners, walkers, bicyclists and others each year.

The event takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Summit Lake in Akron. The program includes a pre-race veteran ceremony and a 5K race offering both timed and untimed online registration options. Registration fees listed by the organizer are $40 for timed and untimed general online registration, $30 for veteran registration, and $50 for walk-up registration after November 5. All finishers receive a commemorative finisher medal.

A 2026 moisture-wicking red long-sleeved shirt with the Towpath Freedom 5K logo is available as an add-on; registrations must be completed by October 19 to include the shirt. The event is part of the Akron Promise Neighborhood Race Series and is supported by title sponsor Apex Skin with additional sponsors including Arcadis, Central Graphics, Chemstress, GCXC Race Timing, GPD Group, H.M.
