Event Overview
The TOUGH HIKE 24K Challenge is a linear point-to-point hiking event that starts with a group meeting at London Victoria Station and concludes on the Brighton seafront. The route covers 24 km (14 miles) with a total ascent of 510 meters. Participants travel by train from London to Hassocks to begin the walk, which generally requires 6 to 6.5 hours of hiking time.
Route Details
The path leaves the valley at Hassocks and ascends the chalk highlands of the South Downs. The course follows quiet lanes and green byways through the village of Ditchling before reaching Ditchling Beacon, a high point offering views of the Weald and the English Channel. The middle section of the hike passes through rolling downs, woodland pockets, and the historic village and parkland of Stanmer House.
As the route nears the coast, it crosses the species-rich grassland of Whitehawk Hill near Brighton Racecourse. The final descent leads directly into Brighton, where the hike concludes near the pier and the Lanes.
