Event Overview
The Totem to Totem Half Marathon is Ketchikan's first half marathon. The 13.1-mile route begins at Rotary Beach (also known as Bugge's Beach) and finishes at Potlatch Park. The course follows Tongass Highway along the water, travels through downtown Ketchikan, and ends north of town.
Course Details
The planned traditional coastal route is subject to change due to potential road construction. If construction is clear, the route passes along the highway with ocean and totem views. There are five aid stations along the course at approximately miles 4, 5.5, 7, 8.5, and 10.5. Each station provides water, sports drink, snacks, first aid, and a portable restroom. Participants must stay on the left side of the highway facing traffic and are not allowed to cross the road. For safety, dogs and strollers are not permitted on the course.
Participation and Logistics
The event is open to runners, walkers, and relay teams. The field is typically between 100 and 200 participants. Aid stations and finish line amenities are available until 2:30 PM, allowing a 5.5-hour time limit (approximately a 24-minute per mile pace). Bib pickup is available on Friday at the Ketchikan Parks and Recreation Center and on Saturday morning at Potlatch Park. Limited parking is available at the start and finish areas; carpooling, drop-offs, and public transit (The Bus) are encouraged. Local bus fares are waived for participants showing a race bib.
Finish Line
The finish line celebration includes refreshments like water, sports drink, coffee, and snacks. A free BBQ with burgers and hot dogs is provided for participants, and a beer garden is available for those aged 21 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
