Tortugas Mountain 24 Hour Challenge
The Tortugas Mountain 24 Hour Challenge is a 24 hour trail event held in Las Cruces, NM on November 20, 2026. The course uses the Arroyo Loop trailhead at the Monte Vista Parking Lot and follows a clockwise 4 mile loop around Tortugas Mountain for the first lap, with subsequent laps alternating direction.
The trail is rocky and rolling single track with some two-track sections. The route will be marked with orange or pink flagging with reflective tape, rock cairns, and brown BLM trail markers. Flagging and reflective tape will be continuously visible in line of sight.
Aid stations are located at the start/finish under the covered picnic area and at the 2 mile mark. Aid stations will provide water, Heed electrolyte drink, and minimal food. This is a cupless event; participants must bring their own drink vessels. Crews and supporters are allowed at the start/finish aid station.
Participants record each completed 4 mile lap on a registration board at the start/finish and note the time of day for each lap using the official race clock at the same location. There is no requirement to be present for the entire 24 hours to have an official finishing distance. Runners should mark themselves away on the register if they leave the course and may return to run additional laps within the 24 hour period.
The event is run as a free "Fatass" race with donations accepted to benefit the Southern New Mexico Trail Alliance. The race field is capped at 50. Lightly worn shoes for donation to a local shelter are requested. Registration opens August 29, 2026 at 12:00 AM Mountain Time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
