Event overview
Top of Tamarack is an annual mental health awareness and suicide prevention event held at Tamarack Village in Idaho. The event includes separate bike and run/hike categories and invites participants to ascend a service road toward the summit. The maximum distance is 15 miles round trip with a total elevation gain of 2,900 ft. Race proceeds benefit Gr8ter, Inc., a local nonprofit that supports mental health recovery programs.
Course, logistics and features
The course is an out-and-back on gravel service roads starting and finishing at Tamarack Village (311 Village Drive). Each mile is marked with a token station; participants may collect tokens along the route or collect all 8 tokens at the summit aid station. Four aid stations are located at the start/finish, Wildwood intersection (3.1 miles), Midmountain (4.8 miles), and the summit (7.3 miles). Aid stations provide water refill stations and basic first aid; there are no disposable cups and participants must provide refillable water containers. Restrooms are available at the base, mid-mountain, and summit.
The first male and female to reach the top in both biking and running are named King and Queen of the Mountain, and awards are given to the top three finishers in each category. The event includes a Memorial Mile for honoring lives lost to suicide and an Overcomer Alley honoring those who have faced mental health struggles. Registrations by a specified date are required to guarantee race swag. Results record tokens collected and time to the summit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
