Tombstone 5K at Mount Greenwood Cemetery
The Tombstone 5K is a timed run/walk held on October 17, 2026 at Mount Greenwood Cemetery, 2900 West 111th Street, Chicago, IL. The course runs through the historic cemetery grounds and includes timing with a disposable chip attached to the race bib. Runners must wear the bib on the front of their clothing for accurate timing; smart watches and mobile phones can interfere with the timing chip and times recorded on those devices will not be considered in disputes.
Participants are encouraged to wear costumes. A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation. The race packet includes a hoodie; registrants must register by September 30 to be guaranteed a hoodie. Race registrations are non refundable, but bibs may be transferred to another person. Packet pickup is handled by Running Excels at 10328 S. Western Ave, Chicago.
Awards include a pair of Brooks Ghost running shoes for the top male and female overall finishers, and medals for first place finishers in each age group, with categories from 9 and under through 80 and over. Water is available at mile 1, mile 2, and at the finish. Free parking is available along 111th Street and nearby residential streets; parking inside the cemetery is not available on race day. For safety, bikes, skates, and pets are not allowed on course; jogging strollers are permitted and walkers are asked to start behind runners.
