The Universal Sole December Trail Challenge
The Universal Sole December Trail Challenge is scheduled for December 12, 2026 and features a single trail distance of 4.5 miles. The event takes place at Schiller Woods West Forest Preserve, Grove 3, 8400 West Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL. The course is an off-road loop with crushed limestone, dirt, rocks and roots, combining single-track and double-track sections. If there is rain, parts of the course may become muddy. Organizers describe the race as laid back and family friendly.
Support and amenities are concentrated at the start and finish due to Cook County Forest Preserve guidelines. Magnesia natural mineral water will be available at the start/finish area, and there will be granola bars and bananas at the finish. Runners are advised to bring their own bottles or hydration packs. Gear check will be located at the Universal Sole tents. Post-race provisions include Will's Famous Chili with meat and vegetarian options and cold brews for participants 21 and older. There will also be a post-race raffle.
Registration follows tiered pricing with set deadlines and no exchanges or refunds. Awards include overall winners in female, male and non-binary divisions and age-group awards for top three in standard age ranges. Strollers and leashed dogs are permitted with placement requested in the last start corral. Shoe recycling will be available through Reduce Waste Chicago.
