Tinto Hill Race

Tinto Hill Race is a hill running event organised by Carnethy Hill Running Club on Tinto Hill near Biggar. The senior race is an adult short hill race (AS) of 4.4 miles with about 1500 feet of ascent. The course follows good paths but is unmarked above 2000 feet, so navigation ability is required.

Entry is by online entry via SI Entries; there is no entry on the day. Entries open 25 September 2026 and close 30 October 2026. Race registration, parking and after-race food are based at Damn Delicious, Thankerton Camp Farm, Thankerton, Biggar ML12 6PD; drivers will be directed to the farm and parking is restricted to the farm grounds. Runners must not park at the Tinto public car park or on nearby roads.

Competitors must carry the following minimum kit throughout the senior race: waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof overtrousers, hat, gloves, whistle, and a map and compass suitable for navigating the course. There will be kit checks. The minimum age for the senior race is 16. If a competitor retires they must inform the nearest marshal and return their race number to the organiser before leaving.

A separate Tinto Junior Hill Race is held for under 16s over about 2 km with 80 metres ascent and has free entry. Junior registration and parking are at the main Tinto Hill car park on the day; the junior route will be marked and marshalled and under 8s should be supervised by an adult.
