Tinahely Half Marathon
Tinahely Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday 8 August 2026 in Tinahely, County Wicklow. The course covers 21.00 km with about 1100 m of climb. The event is listed as difficulty 9 (3,3,3) meaning difficult terrain, more than 500 m ascent and over 10 km. The race is part of the Leinster Half-Marathon League. Only major junctions will be marked and the use of GPS is not allowed.
The event has a mandatory Level C kit list. All runners must carry a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams, a hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, a foil blanket or bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover, a means to carry at least 500 mL of water, emergency food, a map of the route or area, and a compass. The exact kit to be carried during the race will be finalised on the day depending on conditions. Random kit checks may be carried out and failure to have required items may lead to being denied entry or disqualification.
Route and logistical details are to be confirmed. Entry details have not yet been added; entries for league events usually open a couple of weeks before the event. Tinahely is in south Wicklow, about 40 minutes west of Rathnew. The race is a new event as part of the inaugural Leinster Weekend.
Organisers have arranged weekend camping in the Glenmalure Valley on a field beside the Avonbeg river with coin operated showers at the lodge and portaloos on site. Other nearby accommodation includes the Glenmalure Lodge and Coolalingo B&B. This race will also serve as the second trial for selection for the Nasego Mountain Running Six Nations event in Italy on 5 to 6 September 2026, with the first trial at the Lug Uphill on 14 August. Prizegiving location and some logistical details remain to be confirmed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
