Time Laps 24-Hour Relay Race
Time Laps is a 24 hour lap-based trail running relay held at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. Teams of 2 to 12 participants compete to accumulate points over a 24 hour period; the event is limited to 400 participants. Each lap is assigned a point value based on distance and elevation change, and runners must check in at the scoring table after each lap. Standings are determined by accumulated points. Idle team members can compete in mini-competitions at Race HQ while teammates are on the course. Bonus points and awards are available through a series of timed challenges and activities, including three eight hour windows for bonus collection and a focused series called Stairway to Seven.
Registration is by pre-registration only at a listed fee of $165 per person and includes a prepared dinner, breakfast, lunch, raffle tickets, a finisher medal and a race t-shirt. Race shirts and finisher medals are only guaranteed to teams who pre-register by specified dates. Race registration is non-refundable and all participants must sign the Whitewater Center Assumption of Risk Agreement.
Designated team camping areas are provided and campsites are assigned based on team size. Generators are not permitted, dogs must be kept on a six foot leash, and a $50 cash campsite deposit is required. Trails remain open to other users, no powered vehicles are allowed on the course, there are no aid stations on the loops, and participants must call 911 for emergencies. A course map is noted as coming soon. Awards are given to the top three teams in each division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
