Time Laps 24-Hour Relay Race
Time Laps is a lap-based, 24-hour trail running relay held at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. Teams of 2 to 12 participants compete to accumulate points over the 24-hour period; points are awarded for completed laps and for the relative difficulty of each lap. Lap point values reflect distance and elevation change, and runners must check in at the scoring table after each lap.
Only one runner per team may accumulate points at a time, though runners from the same team may run together between sunset and sunrise if they choose. Each team member must complete at least one lap. Idle team members may take part in mini-competitions at Race HQ while teammates are on course. Bonus points and awards are available through timed challenges, running races, physical tasks, memory activities, and through three designated windows for additional scoring including the "Stairway to Seven" opportunity.
Registration includes a prepared dinner, breakfast, lunch, raffle tickets, a finisher’s medal, and a race t-shirt. The event provides designated team camping areas with space limits, prohibits generators, allows dogs on a 6 ft leash, and requires a refundable campsite deposit of $50 cash. Trails remain open to other users during the event; no e-bikes or powered transportation are permitted. Participants must sign the facility waiver before participating. Registration is non-refundable. The center may alter, reschedule, or cancel the event and recommends following posted emergency procedures on site.
