Tidewater Striders Summer Series
The Tidewater Striders Summer Series is a three week series of community running events held from July 7 to July 21, 2026 at Norfolk Zoo and Chesapeake City Park in Virginia. The schedule includes multiple short-distance events and a bundled entry option for all three main events.
Distances include:
- 1 Mile
- 2 Miles
- 5K
- 1 Mile for kids
Event formats and procedures noted by the organizer:
- Summer Series I is a Random Relay 1 mile with three-person teams for the run and two-person teams for the walk; organizers will assign teams.
- Summer Series II is a 2 mile event where participants predict their finish time without using watches or a clock; the closest prediction wins a prize.
- Summer Series III is a Brooks Poker Run 5K that is not officially timed; participants receive cards at registration, along the course, and at the finish for poker prizes. Walkers may start at a designated earlier time.
- A separate 1 mile youth race is offered.
Registration is online only, opens February 7, 2026, and closes at 6:00 PM on the day of each event. Entry fees listed by the organizer are $15 for individual non-members, $10 for the kids mile, and a three-event bundle for $45. Current Strider club members receive a discount and members may register at no charge per the organizer. Bib numbers will be assigned on site. The director may shorten, postpone, or cancel events for lightning, storms, site conditions, or extreme heat. Food and beverages, including beer, water, and Gatorade, will be available after each event. Volunteers are requested. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
