Tidewater Striders Summer Series
The Tidewater Striders Summer Series runs across three weekly events in July 2026 at two Norfolk-area locations: Norfolk Zoo and Chesapeake City Park. The series includes short, separate running events and a kids race, and a bundled option to register for all three main events.
Online pre-registration is required for each event and closes at 6:00 PM on the day of each event. Summer Series I, II, and III are free for current Strider members; non-members pay an event fee. A three-event bundle is offered for a combined fee. Bib numbers are assigned on site at each event. The event director may shorten, postpone, or cancel events due to lighting, storms, location conditions, or extreme heat.
Event formats vary by date: one event uses a random relay format with teams assigned by organizers; one asks participants to predict their finish time with no watches or clocks and awards a prize to the closest prediction; one is a poker run where participants collect cards along the course and the best hands win. A separate 1 mile race is offered for youth in addition to the 5K option.
Volunteers are needed to help at events. Post-event refreshments listed by organizers include beer, water, Gatorade, and pizza. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
