About the race
The Tide Race is a tidal trail running event held on Tresco in the Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom. The programme includes two distances:
- 10 km
- 2 km kids and family
The 10 km course starts on Tresco, crosses the temporarily exposed sandbar to Bryher, includes a full circumnavigation of Bryher, then returns across the sandbar to Tresco before the tide returns. The crossing involves running through water; depth is expected to be no deeper than thigh for most participants and may be below waist height in some conditions. For safety, footwear is required for the water crossing.
A strict cut-off is applied to protect participants from the incoming tide: anyone who reaches the Bryher loop with less than 15 minutes remaining will not be allowed to start the return crossing. All runners must wear an official event vest so they can be identified by safety staff; entrants who register before 5 July receive a technical vest to keep, while later entrants are issued a swimrun vest to borrow.
Young people aged 13 and over may enter the full 10 km with parental permission. Children under 13 may take part in the 10 km only when accompanied by an adult at a ratio of one adult to four children. Participants must arrange their own travel to Tresco; boat transport is not included. Entry fees are reported as £45 for the 10 km and £10 per family for the 2 km race.
