The Tide Race : Tresco to Bryher
The Tide Race is a trail running event on Tresco, United Kingdom, with two distances:
- 10 km
- 2 km (kids and family)
The 10 km route begins on Tresco, uses a sandbar that is temporarily exposed at low tide to reach Bryher, includes a full circumnavigation of Bryher, and returns across the sandbar before the tide returns. The 2 km race is a shorter family-friendly crossing to Bryher and back.
For safety, all participants must wear an official Scilly60 Events vest so they are distinguishable from the public. Some registrants receive a technical vest to keep; later registrants are given a swimrun vest to borrow. Runners will cross shallow water; organisers expect water depth to be no deeper than thigh height for most people, and possibly below waist height in certain conditions. Footwear suitable for the water crossing is mandatory.
There is a strict two hour time limit for the course. Any runner who completes the Bryher loop with less than 15 minutes remaining will not be permitted to start the return crossing because of the incoming tide.
Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Tresco; there are daily tripper boats serving the islands. The event is organised by Scilly60 Events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
