Thunder in the Valley
Thunder in the Valley takes place on May 9, 2026 in Terre Haute, Indiana at Hawthorn Park, 6067 E Old Maple Ave. The event is USAT certified and requires USAT membership at registration or a purchased 1 Day USAT race license.
The sprint triathlon opens with a 500 meter swim in calm Hawthorn Lake, followed by a lakeside transition to a smooth 20 km bike course with rolling hills that returns athletes to transition. The race finishes with a shaded, flat out and back 5 km run. The duathlon begins with a 1.6 km out and back run to transition, continues on the same 20 km bike course, and ends with a 5 km run. Awards are presented after the races and post race refreshments and pizza are provided.
Relay entries are available for both events: triathlon relays may include two or three members and duathlon relays are two person teams. Registered athletes receive event items including custom finisher medals, swim caps, and a Thunder in the Valley t shirt with a guaranteed shirt cutoff of May 1 at 11:59 pm. Packet pickup requires USAT membership ID and personal ID. Water temperature was recorded at 70 degrees and USAT wetsuit rules by temperature will apply.
