Event Overview
The Third Circle of Hell is a journey run through the state of Tennessee. The course covers a distance of 420 miles and primarily utilizes back roads. Participants navigate a route that traverses several major geographical regions, including the pressure ridges of upper East Tennessee, the Crab Orchard Mountains, the Cumberland Plateau, the Sequatchie Valley, and the southern extension of Lookout Mountain.
Course Details
The route features 24 major climbs and passes through remote areas where commercial services are unavailable. Runners are responsible for route finding due to numerous turns and must carry adequate supplies to sustain themselves through the unserviced sections. The event is characterized by its scenic tour of lesser known areas within the state.
Registration Requirements
This is an advanced event intended for experienced journey runners. To be eligible for entry, participants must have previously completed both the Vol State and the Heart of the South Journey Runs. It serves as the third component of a specific triple crown of Tennessee journey runs.
Accommodation and Logistics
Logistics for the event include housing options at historical locations. Entrants may be housed at the Hale Springs Inn in Rogersville, which is the oldest inn in Tennessee. Due to the limited number of rooms at the primary location, additional lodging is provided at the Comfort Inn. A communal meal is held at the inn prior to the event.
