About the Event

The Third Circle of Hell is a long-distance ultramarathon in Tennessee. The route covers 420 miles on mainly back roads, starting from the Hancock County Courthouse in Sneedville. It is described as a challenging course.

The course has numerous turns and passes through remote areas of Tennessee with no available services. Runners must be adept at route finding and capable of carrying adequate supplies. The route includes 24 major climbs.

The run passes four major geographic mountain features: the long pressure ridges of upper East Tennessee, the Crab Orchard Mountains, the Cumberland Plateau and Sequatchie Valley combination, and the southern extension of Lookout Mountain. The event offers a tour of some of Tennessee's lesser-known scenic areas.

This event is the third in a series called the "last annual Tennessee Journey Runs." Participation requires completion of two other specific ultramarathons: the Vol State and Heart of the South Journey Runs.

Lodging

Accommodation is provided for some participants at the historic Hale Springs Inn in Rogersville, which is the oldest inn in Tennessee. Due to limited space, overflow housing is at a Comfort Inn. Most rooms at the Hale Springs Inn have a single bed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
