The Whitworth Thread
The Whitworth Thread is a regular monthly timed run organised by the Sole Mates community running group for Matlock Athletic Club. It takes place in Whitworth Park, Darley Dale, Matlock, and is described as a 5km course completed over three laps.
The route consists of three one mile laps on tarmac with short uphill and downhill sections and a total climb of about 30 metres. The course is marked and marshals are positioned at various points. Participants may choose to complete all three laps or run one or two laps instead.
Entry is free and there is an optional charity donation, with a recommended contribution of £1; donated money is passed to charity. Runners register once to take part on future occasions; new runners can register on the day by providing basic details. The event has a field limit of 150 and welcomes all ages, with under 18s expected to be supervised by a responsible adult.
The start location is by the monument at the top of Whitworth Park. There is ample car parking with an entrance via the A6 and additional street parking next to the park. The Whitworth Thread is licensed by England Athletics as an unmeasured road race, Event License Number 2023-46647. Results are recorded for the official timed runs.
