About the race

The Wheatsheaf is a new evening trail event held on 11 November 2026. The course is a 5 km route through the countryside that is expected to be run with headtorches. Organisers describe the route as having little to no signage, making the event fully self sufficient; a tail runner will be present.
The event raises funds for the Whizz Kidz charity. From each entry fee £2 is donated to the charity. There is a separate £2 levy for entrants who are not TRA or UKA members. Entry fees change by date and a service fee applies.
Facilities and logistics include public parking on the opposite side of the village green by the duck ponds, a roughly five minute walk to the venue, and a bus service between Chelmsford and Writtle. Cycling is mentioned as an alternative and a beer garden at the venue can be used to lock bikes. The venue offers drinks at the finish including a pint, a glass of wine, soft drinks and hot drinks, and food is available.
Participants will be sent a GPX file before the event and are advised to download the narrative for navigation. Compulsory equipment includes a phone and a head torch; high visibility clothing, waterproofs and warm layers are recommended. Total places are limited to 50 and the event status is open.
