36th Annual The Westside Way
The Westside Way is an annual running and walking event held at the Wilmington Riverfront in Delaware. The event base is located at the Hare Pavilion, situated behind the AAA buildings at River Place. Participants follow out and back routes that utilize the Riverwalk and pass through scenic wetland areas.
Available distances include:
- 10 km run/walk
- 5 km run/walk
- 5 km competitive walk
The 5 km competitive walk category is reserved for athletes who walk the entire distance without running or jogging. There is also a specific registration category for children aged nine and under. The event uses the MYLAPS BibTag Timing System to provide chip-timed results, which are posted online during and after the races.
The venue offers several free parking options within walking distance, including the Barclays, Commonwealth, and Madison Street lots, as well as the Delaware Technical & Community College lot. Amenities for participants include an after-party with snacks and beverages. A commemorative long-sleeved T-shirt is provided to the first 175 registrants.
Awards are presented to the overall male and female winners in both the 5 km and 10 km events. Additionally, awards are given to the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 13 and under to 70 and over. The first 20 non-timed runners under the age of 10 receive a goodie bag. This event takes place rain or shine, and pets are not permitted on the race course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
