The Wearin' of the Green 5K Shamrock Run

The Wearin' of the Green 5K Shamrock Run is a community running event held in Baton Rouge. Now in its seventh year, the race takes place on the same day as the historic Wearin' of the Green St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The event features a single distance for participants:

  • 5K (3.1 miles)

The course for 2026 follows a reversed loop compared to previous years. Participants head up Perkins Road, turn left onto E Lakeshore Drive, and continue toward Dalrymple. The route then turns right onto Magnolia Drive and right back onto Perkins Road to return to the location behind Moreau Physical Therapy. A portion of the race utilizes the last mile of the parade route.

Registered participants receive a customized bib with an integrated timing chip. The first 500 registrants are eligible for event swag, and the first 500 finishers receive a commemorative medal. Awards are presented to the top 10 male and top 10 female finishers. Following the race, an after-party is held featuring food, beverages, and entertainment.

Safety regulations state that baby joggers, strollers, and dogs are not permitted in the race or the start and finish areas. Participants with leg or foot casts are also restricted from entering. The event is limited to 700 registrants, and all entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
