The Unforeseen
The Unforeseen is scheduled for November 14, 2026, at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC, and is organized by Kingfisher Ultras. The event uses a 2.25-mile loop around the preserve and offers both a random-distance format and a timed option.
Event options:
- Random distance determined by a dice roll, between 4.5 and 27 miles
- 6-Hour option to complete as many 2.25-mile laps as possible
The course is a 2.25-mile lap with flat gravel and single-track sections. The route is marked with yellow arrows at each trail junction and the start and finish are located near the pavilion behind the nature center. A step-by-step route description names the Umbrella Tree trail, South Fork trail, Sierra trail, Sassafras trail, Dragonfly Pond, and Dragonfly trail as the main segments of the loop.
The pavilion behind the nature center serves as the aid station with snacks, refill jugs, trash cans, and first-aid support. Packet pickup is available on-site before the race. A GPX file for the course is provided by the organizer.
Prizes include a Damascus steel knife provided by Arbor Novo. Runners must wear visible bibs for lap accounting. The refund policy specifies 100% refunds within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, and no refunds within 10 days; if the race is canceled, entrants are granted a free future race.
