The Unforeseen offers a unique twist: the race distance is randomly decided by a dice roll just before the start, ranging from 4.5 to 27 miles. Alternatively, runners can take on a 6-hour challenge on a fast, flowing 2.25-mile loop course at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve.

Event Information

The Unforeseen is a running event at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, North Carolina. It features two formats: a random distance race and a 6-hour timed event.

Race Format

For the random distance event, the exact race distance is determined by a dice roll 15 seconds before the start. The potential distances range from 4.5 miles to 27 miles, with each loop being 2.25 miles. Past rolls have resulted in distances of 4.5 miles and just under 25 miles. The 6-hour option allows participants to complete as many laps as possible within the time limit.

The Course

The course consists of a 2.25-mile loop on flat gravel and single-track trails. The route is described as fast and flowing. It starts and finishes near a pavilion behind the nature center and is marked with yellow arrows at trail junctions.

On-Site Details

An aid station with snacks and water refills is located at the pavilion, which also serves as the start/finish area. Packet pickup occurs on the morning of the event. The winner of the event receives a prize.

Policies

There is a refund policy based on the days before the event, with 100% refunds available within 90 days. If the event is canceled, entrants are granted a free entry to a future race. Volunteers receive an entry to a future event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
