Lake Somerville Trail Running
The Trailway Trail Race takes place at Lake Somerville State Park, specifically within the Birch Creek Unit. The course utilizes The Trailway, a natural path connecting two sections of the park, featuring rolling terrain that alternates between open sky and shaded forest canopies. The trails mostly consist of flat, hard-packed ground with some rooted sections and areas of loose soil or sand.
Participants can choose from a variety of distances:
- 50 km
- 26.2 miles (including a Ruck division)
- 13.1 miles
- 10 km (including a Ruck division)
- 5 km
- Youth 1 mile
The event follows a lollipop-style loop format. The 13.1 mile, 26.2 mile, and 50 km routes involve out-and-back sections with turnaround points. The 26.2 mile race consists of two laps of the 13.1 mile course, while the 50 km includes additional mileage beyond the marathon turnaround.
The race hub is located at the lake's edge, featuring a large grass lawn. Aid stations provide water, ice, electrolyte drinks, gels, and various snacks. As a cupless event, runners must carry their own hydration vessels. Ruck divisions require participants to carry weighted packs based on body weight: 20 lbs for those under 150 lbs and 30 lbs for those over 150 lbs.
