Silvan course description
The Silvan race takes place on Sunday 2 August 2026 and uses a handicap start format that mixes runners from different course lengths at points on the course. All courses run in the Dandenong Ranges through Mountain Ash forest on a mix of single track and double track. Runners should expect some significant hills and changes in gradient compared with other Series races.
The distances and recorded elevation gains are:
- Long Course: 21.7 km, 703 m ascent
- Medium Course: 15.1 km, 400 m ascent
- Short Course: 7.3 km, 175 m ascent
Course specifics: the Long Course includes water points at about 9 km and 17 km and follows single and double track with several long climbs. The Medium Course includes a water point near 9 km and avoids the Arboretum summit, remaining mostly runnable until a solid hill near the end. The Short Course contains no water points and stays on lower flanks with weaving single track and flatter sections.
Course marking and finish area: courses are marked with distinct colours and materials so runners can follow their route where courses split. Trails and dirt roads are wider closer to the finish to allow passing and merging.
Passing etiquette is encouraged: communicate when you want to pass, indicate the side to pass on, and avoid forcing a pass if you cannot sustain the faster pace. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
