The MTC Thames Challenge 2026

The MTC Thames Challenge is a multi-day endurance running event held over four days. The course spans a total distance of 184 miles and follows the path of the River Thames. The event starts near Kemble Station in the Cotswolds and is divided into four distinct stages.

The race consists of four individual sections, each recognized as a unique ultra-marathon:

  • The Cotswold Ultra
  • The Oxford Ultra
  • The Windsor Ultra
  • The Richmond Ultra

This event is categorized as a UKA-governed running race. Participants who complete the full distance meet the entry criteria for the Notorious race, which serves as the conclusion to the Challenger Series.

Competitors are required to be self-sufficient during the event. There is a mandatory kit list that all runners must carry, which includes a backpack, a head torch with spare batteries, and a whistle. For navigation, participants must have a compass or GPS device along with OS maps or downloadable maps provided by the organizer.
