Event Overview
The MTC Thames Challenge is a four-day ultra marathon covering the length of England's longest river path. The total distance is 184 miles.
Stages
The route is split into four individual stages, each with its own name and distance:
- Day 1: The MTC Cotswold Ultra - 57 miles from the source of the Thames to Travelodge Oxford.
- Day 2: The MTC Oxford Ultra - 49 miles from Oxford to Wetherspoons, Henley-on-Thames.
- Day 3: The MTC Windsor Ultra - 47 miles from Henley-on-Thames to Travelodge Kingston.
- Day 4: The MTC Richmond Ultra - 33 miles concluding at the Thames Gate.
Participation Details
The event is part of the URL Challenger Series. It is possible to enter as a solo runner or as part of a relay team. A combined entry with the MTC Severn Challenge in the same year is available, which awards a special buckle.
Accommodation at the end of the first three days (Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road, The Catherinewheel Hotel in Henley-on-Thames, and a Travelodge Kingston) is included, as are breakfast and an evening meal at these locations. Kit transfer for one bag per competitor is provided by the support vehicle.
The event includes several mandatory items for participants. All finishers receive a bespoke medal and a technical tee shirt for each day completed. The four medals form a jigsaw of the Thames Path route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
