Event overview

The TFG Castle & Cake Trail Races take place on 3 May 2026 at Castleton Village Hall (S33 8WJ) in the Peak District. The event is organised by Trails For Good and is held under UK Athletics rules with a licence from the Trail Running Association. Participants must be 18 or older. Entries open 21 November 2025 and close 1 May 2026.

Course and logistics

There are two fully waymarked trail courses:

  • 13.1 km - 300 m ascent
  • 6.5 km - 200 m ascent

Runners register at Castleton Village Hall and ascend Cavedale to the start line below the ruins of Peveril Castle. The route climbs to views of the Great Ridge and Mam Tor. Short course runners return to Castleton from the ridge. Long course runners continue across the Great Ridge toward Hope and then return along the valley floor to Castleton. The event uses a small-group waved start approach.

Long course runners must carry mandatory kit. Short course runners must wear kit appropriate for terrain and conditions; full kit requirements are provided by the organiser. The finish returns to Castleton Village Hall, where the organiser provides complimentary baked goods from Peveril Stores & Bakery and a 10% discount on store purchases over £5. Trails For Good supports the Peak District National Park Foundation Paths and Trails Appeal as a Silver Peak Partner.

Entry fees vary by affiliation: affiliated and unaffiliated prices apply for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
