Event Overview

The TFG Castle & Cake Trail Races take place in Castleton in the Peak District. Participants can choose between a short course and a long course. The courses are fully waymarked.

Distances

  • Short course: 6.5 km with 200 m of ascent.
  • Long course: 13.1 km with 300 m of ascent.

Course Details

The event begins with an ascent of Cavedale, a valley below Peveril Castle ruins. From the start line, runners climb to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Great Ridge and Mam Tor. The short course descends from this point back to Castleton. The long course continues over the Great Ridge, briefly enters the Vale of Edale, runs across the ridge to Hope, and returns along the valley floor to Castleton.

Start Procedure

The event uses a flexible start window. Runners select a 10-minute start slot between 8:00 and 9:30 AM when registering.

Event HQ and Finish

Registration and the event finish are at Castleton Village Hall. After finishing, runners receive complimentary baked goods from Peveril Stores & Bakery, located nearby. Participants also receive a 10% discount on purchases over £5 at the bakery.

Participant Requirements

Participants must be 18 years or older. Long course runners are required to carry mandatory kit. Short course runners must wear kit appropriate for the terrain and conditions.

Environmental Contribution

The event organizer, Trails For Good, is a Silver Peak Partner with the Peak District National Park Foundation. They contribute to the Paths and Trails Appeal to help repair erosion on the Great Ridge route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
