The TFG Castle & Cake Trail Races
The TFG Castle & Cake Trail Races take place in the village of Castleton, located in the Peak District. Hosted by Trails For Good, the event base is situated at the Castleton Village Hall. This event offers two fully waymarked courses that traverse varied terrain, including a hidden valley beneath the ruins of Peveril Castle.
The routes utilize a waved start approach to manage the number of participants on the trails at once. Runners depart in small groups within ten-minute windows. Both courses begin with an ascent through Cavedale to reach the start line, followed by a climb that provides panoramic views of the Great Ridge and Mam Tor.
Available distances include:
- 13.1 km long course with 300m of total ascent.
- 6.5 km short course with 200m of total ascent.
The long course extends across the Great Ridge into the Vale of Edale and passes through Hope before returning to Castleton along the valley floor. The short course descends back to the village after the initial viewpoints. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association and operates under UK Athletics rules. Mandatory kit requirements apply for the long course, while short course participants must wear gear appropriate for trail conditions. After the run, participants receive complimentary baked goods at the event headquarters provided by a local bakery.
