Event Overview
The Swissvale Mile is a community fitness event held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, starting at the Dickson Prep STEAM Academy. Established in 2014, this 100% volunteer-organized event serves as a platform for local engagement while supporting various community causes. Participants can choose between a professional timed race or a family-oriented walk that welcomes dogs.
The event structure includes the following options:
- 1 Mile Run: A professionally timed competitive event.
- 1 Mile Walk: A non-timed walk for families and individuals.
The initiative directs its proceeds back into the local neighborhood. Past funds have supported the Woodland Hills Chromebook Fund, youth baseball and softball associations, local K-9 officers, and the annual Swissvale Juneteenth Celebration. For multiple years, the event has partnered with the Swissvale Rotary to provide funding for the Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale, the local senior center, and various food pantries.
Participants engage in a route through the neighborhood which fosters social interaction among residents and visitors. The registration fees contribute directly to these local charitable efforts and community enrichment programs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
