Run on the Susquehanna Warrior Trail
The Shimmy in Shickshinny 1/2 and 1/4 Marathon takes place in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. The event offers two distinct distances on a course that follows the west bank of the Susquehanna River. The route is an out-and-back format utilizing the Susquehanna Warrior Trail, which consists of a hard-packed dirt and gravel surface.
Participants can choose from the following distances:
- 13.1 miles (1/2 Marathon)
- 6.55 miles (1/4 Marathon)
The course is characterized by a flat profile with a total elevation gain and loss of only 11 feet. Approximately 90% of the trail is shaded by trees, providing cover for runners during the summer. Water stations are positioned along the route approximately every two miles, and portable toilets are provided at the start area and on the course.
The half marathon has a hard cutoff time of 3 hours and 15 minutes. While the trail remains open to the public and leashed dogs are permitted, the use of strollers is not allowed due to the trail surface.
All participants receive a race-themed T-shirt while supplies last and a finisher's medal. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three in various age categories ranging from 14 and under to 70 and over. A portion of the event proceeds goes toward supporting the Susquehanna Warrior Trail. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
