The Shady City Race
The Shady City Race is the third annual running event held on the Jim Simmons Memorial Trail at Millcreek Park in Marysville, Ohio. The event uses a tree-lined, chip-timed, paved trail and offers multiple distance options for adults and children.
Distances offered:
- Leafy Loop 5K
- Tree Line Trek 10K
- Sapling Dash Kids Run, about 0.25 miles, out and back
Registration fees are listed at $30–$40 for the 5K and 10K, and $15 for the kids race; the kids race entry includes a t-shirt but no medal. Race registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. SWAG and awards information are noted as coming soon.
A portion of event proceeds supports Blessings in a Backpack. The donation page indicates 100% of those donation proceeds go to that program. Blessings in a Backpack in Marysville provides weekly non-perishable food during the school year for children, currently serving five elementary schools and Creekview Intermediate School. Each bag typically includes at minimum two breakfast items, two entree or protein items, and two healthy snacks, with extra items provided for long weekends and extended breaks. The program reports community funding and has served between 140 and 285 children per year since 2012. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
