The Salisbury Beast 5K
The Salisbury Beast 5K is the eighth edition of an annual road race held in Salisbury, Connecticut. The event takes place at Town Hall Salisbury, 27 Main Street. The course is USATF certified and the advertised distance is 3.1 miles.
The route includes a sustained climb that gains about 500 feet by mile 1.3, with a turnaround at the top of Lincoln City Road. Runners return along the same roadway, with downhill segments and views of Lake Wononscopomuc in autumn.
On-site logistics include plentiful street parking and additional parking near the Salisbury Ski Jumps. A clean porta-potty is available at the race start and private bathrooms are available at Labonne's Market. Nearby food and drink options mentioned are Sweet Williams on Main Street and Provisions, Whitehart at the junction of Main Street and Undermountain Road.
The event is organized as a fundraiser. Proceeds support evidence based adventure, arts and educational programming for people ages 12 to 20, addressing elevated risks for alcohol and drug abuse in rural New England. To date the event has raised over $7,500. This year a portion of race proceeds and all additional donations will support Catamount Resort's National Ski Patrol Young Adult Program YAP.
