The Ruff - Dog Mountain, Cook WA
The Ruff is a mountain trail run held at the Dog Mountain trailhead in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The course covers 7 mile on single-track trails, climbing roughly 3,000 feet over the first 3 miles to the summit and descending about 4 miles via the Augspurger Trail to the finish. The route offers views of the Columbia River, Mt Hood, and Mt St. Helens.
The event is staged at the Dog Mountain trailhead on WA-14 in Cook, Washington. Parking is available at the trailhead but is limited; carpooling is encouraged. The race is dog friendly. Food and drink at the event include pizza supplied by Backwoods Brewing and beer from Ninkasi, with an additional hot meal provided by a local vendor at the post-race celebration.
Awards are given to top finishers: first place male and female receive a pair of trail running shoes, the top three men and women receive awards, top masters male and female receive awards, and King and Queen of the Mountain awards are presented. Youth pricing applies to participants age 18 and under. The race operates under a special use permit in partnership with the US Forest Service and the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
